Strange things happen

Life has been manic - settling in to a new routine in the fantastic city of Bristol!

I'm going to be showing some work in an exhibition in Cardiff in a couple of weeks (my first adventure into the Welsh art world!) It'll be at an exciting art space called tactileBOSCH. Will post pictures here after the show! Maybe see you at the opening...

Another little cluster of screws has snuck up on a windowsill of the Truman Brewery.

An extraordinarily diverse exhibition spanning the length and depth of painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, video and live art. Seventy Feet showcases the work of thirty-five emerging artists, recent graduates from Bath School of Art and Design. Three years in production - here it is.

Alongside the main exhibition is the Seventy Feet Project Space, which facilitates a dynamic live art programme for the duration of the show. A timetable of events will be available in the space and on our website throughout the week (going live soon).

Un-stringing Strum

The removal of the rubber bands. Sad but somehow amazing - had to document it!

New Work - May

Here are the pieces I have up for my degree show. There are four pieces in total!

STRUM

Re-strung vertically, with a simple vinyl instruction in the corner. Touch is encouraged. When the bands are 'strummed' they vibrate and blur.

AN ACCUMULATION OF STRAWS (91 rubber bands, 22750 drinking straws)

Each bundle is a standard pack of 250 straws. Similar to the elastic band piece, the straws have a really mad optical quality about them. They look soft from the side and have a honeycomb effect from above.

Originally part of the installation 'Around', I edited down the piece to a simple cluster of used screws.

RUNNING WATER THROUGH BENDY STRAWS (film)

My first foray into film. This is an uncomplicated film - a bit of fun I hope. Bendy straws jammed into a set of taps, with water running through continuously...

The Shopping List @ Fringe Arts Bath

I've been installing a sound piece today for The Collective exhibition at the old Officer's Club building in the centre of Bath.

'The Shopping List' is a sound installation - my found shopping lists read aloud and repeated as a script. It's going to be in a dark changing room at the back of the shop, which is quite exciting!

There are going to be several Fringe Festival exhibitions in the building, spread over four floors. Amazing.

The opening is this Friday from 6pm - SEE YOU THERE!

'Around' - pencil, paper, magnets, screws.

For 'These Words I Seek Are Not My Own' at Motorcade/FlashParade I made a piece of work called 'Around'.

It was made up of a large scale drawing, of an obsessive mark making, tracing around found nuts and washers, paper held to the wall with magnets. Next to the drawing was a circular collection of used screws, driven into the wall as far as they could be forced.

These Words I Seek...

You can see my work in a group show next week, at Motorcade/FlashParade in Bristol. I will be making in the space for much of the week.

There will be work by eight artists, and collectively we are all working somewhere in the field of 'extended painting'. Through our artistic practices, we all respond in some way to the title of the show, a thought/statement/truth - 'These Words I Seek Are Not My Own'.

Today involved some playing. Spontaneously. And a really exciting tutorial with artist Des Hughes. Worry whilst making. Some things just make sense.
